Retro Tower Defense 1x1x1x1 Tower

Learn how 1x1x1x1 is obtained in Retro Tower Defense, distinguish the tower from the boss and skins, and use its tiered Holo Sword role.

1x1x1x1 is a Heroic tower in Retro Tower Defense. It is easy to confuse three different things: the playable 1x1x1x1 tower, an enemy or boss with the same name, and cosmetic skins such as the Forsaken-side 4x4x4x4 reward. This guide is about the placeable tower. Always inspect the destination of a reward before assuming a badge or skin unlock gives you the RTD unit.

Community documentation says the tower is obtained through the Standard or Limited Summon banner. That route can rotate. Open the current banner details and confirm 1x1x1x1 appears in the pool before spending Tix or luck boosts. If it is absent, wait for a visible source, use the current trading rules if the exact copy is eligible, or develop another tower rather than rolling blindly.

Before rolling, record the banner name, visible pool, remaining time, price and any displayed guarantee. The community page calls both Standard and Limited banners possible sources, but it does not provide a permanent schedule. A five-minute banner check prevents an entire session of wasted pulls.

Community-documented tower card

The community record lists a one-placement limit, a $900 summary deployment cost and $32,150 total cost, but its detailed level table starts at $1,250. Because those two fields conflict on the same page, this guide does not choose one as fact. Read the current owned card and confirmation amount. The conflict is exactly why a dated live value matters.

The detailed record describes five upgrade levels, range increasing from 8 to 11, Ghost detection from level 2, Tough detection from level 4, and target count increasing from one to two. It also documents a periodic Holo Sword hit whose multiplier, range and cooldown improve by tier and level. These are community-reported mechanics; patches can change them.

The tier presentation is part of the character: community documentation says the displayed identity progresses through 2x2x2x2 and 3x3x3x3 before Tier IV appears as 4x4x4x4. Check the Roman tier or owned version when comparing guides, because “1x1x1x1” in a title may actually show maximum-tier performance.

How to use 1x1x1x1

Treat it as a compact damage tower that becomes more flexible after detection and multi-target upgrades. Its documented short-to-medium range rewards a bend or tight central segment rather than a remote back tile. The one-placement limit makes that position important: preview the range circle before confirming, and leave space for support if your build uses it.

Bring an opener that can defend while you save. Once 1x1x1x1 is placed, prioritize the upgrade that answers the next threat. Level 2 is notable in the community table because Ghost detection appears; level 4 adds Tough detection. If the selected mode does not need that detection yet, another tower or economy breakpoint may be more urgent.

The Holo Sword’s reported cooldown means output is not captured by basic attack DPS alone. Judge several full cycles on the same wave, and do not call the tower weak because one short test ended before the ability fired. For boss pressure, place it where both the normal attack and Holo Sword range cover the danger route.

Loadout partners

Cheap opener

Protects the early lane while you save for the Heroic placement and its detection upgrades.

Wide wave clear

Covers groups outside 1x1x1x1's documented target count and reduces pressure between Holo Sword activations.

Support or control

Use a buff, slow or stun whose radius reaches the single premium placement without sacrificing lane coverage.

Backup detection

Prevents a lower-level copy from becoming the team's only answer to Ghost or Tough enemies.

See Best Loadout for the full role structure. The DPS Tier List explains why tier, cost and uptime matter more than a single maximum damage screenshot.

Video review and visual unlock check

This September 2025 review shows the tower's five levels and includes an unlock section. It is useful visually, but the current banner and card override its old values.

Common mistakes

  • Grinding a Forsaken badge expecting the playable RTD tower when the public reward belongs to Forsaken.
  • Pulling a banner without opening the pool details first.
  • Comparing Tier IV footage with a lower-tier owned copy.
  • Placing the one available copy where its short range touches only a straight section.
  • Calculating damage without the Holo Sword cycle or required detection.

1x1x1x1 FAQ

How do you get the 1x1x1x1 tower?

Community documentation lists Standard and Limited Summoning. Confirm the tower appears in the current banner pool; availability is not guaranteed by an older page.

Is 4x4x4x4 a separate tower?

The community tower page uses 4x4x4x4 for Tier IV, while the Forsaken collaboration also has a 4x4x4x4 skin reward in the partner experience. Read the tier, item type and destination to avoid mixing them.

What should I verify first after obtaining it?

Check deployment cost, owned tier, placement limit, detections by level, Holo Sword tooltip and trade eligibility. These fields decide whether an old build still applies.
