Retro Tower Defense Difficulties

Compare Retro Tower Defense Casual, Normal, Hard, Insane, and Endless goals with a safe progression and test framework.

Retro Tower Defense publicly names Casual, Normal, Hard, and Endless in its official experience description. The official badge catalog additionally confirms win badges for Casual, Normal, Hard, and Insane. The safest interpretation is that these modes or difficulties exist in the experience’s public history, while current unlocks, maps, wave counts, and rewards must be verified in the live selector.

Casual: learn the route

Use Casual to identify entrances, path overlaps, placement rules, targeting options, and upgrade timing. Test one starter tower at a time and learn what causes the first leak. A clean Casual clear is useful only if you understand why it worked.

Record the live reward rather than assuming Casual has a fixed payout. It can still be the best progression choice when the alternative is repeated failure on a higher setting.

Normal: prove consistency

Normal is the bridge between learning and optimization. Build a balanced loadout, repeat the same map, and aim to clear without using every last resource. Note groups, durable targets, support timing, and any mechanics that differ from Casual.

Official Forsaken collaboration badge conditions use Normal for Clean Sweep, which requires Classic on every Forsaken map with no modifiers. Select goals carefully: a normal progression clear and a badge-qualified no-modifier clear can have different constraints.

Hard: test the full plan

Hard should be attempted after Normal is repeatable. Strengthen the opener, reserve cash, time upgrades before observed threats, and preserve late damage. The official Hard badge confirms a map-win condition but does not publish a wave script or reward amount.

Use the dedicated Hard Mode Guide for a failure-driven upgrade order. When modifiers are allowed for an ordinary run, record them so the result is reproducible.

Insane: verify live access first

An official public badge exists for winning a map on Insane. The current official description does not list Insane alongside the four highlighted options, so confirm whether it is selectable now, gated, event-limited, renamed, or retained only in badge history.

Do not write an unlock requirement from memory. Screenshot the live lock text, required progression, map restrictions, and reward panel. Treat any strategy as mode-version specific.

Endless: measure survival depth

Endless is officially described as infinite waves. It has no ordinary fixed clear, so record final wave, defeat cause, party size, map, modifiers, and UTC date. Loadouts need scaling, economy, and replacement space beyond a short-mode plan.

The Endless Guide covers economy repayment, placement reservation, and record conditions. Compare Endless results only when the conditions match.

Modifiers and Classic rules

Modifiers can change difficulty and may invalidate an achievement even if the map is won. Public Forsaken badge descriptions specifically use “no modifiers” for Clean Sweep and Home Run, while Home Turf allows modifiers. Read the exact badge before queuing.

“Classic” in those descriptions is a required mode label, not a synonym that should be applied to every map. Confirm the selected mode and map group in the live interface.

Choose the most efficient progression

Measure clear rate, match duration, visible rewards, mission overlap, and learning value. Three reliable Normal clears may outperform one Hard win surrounded by failures. Move up when the lower difficulty leaves an upgrade reserve and the failure point is predictable.

Keep separate records for solo and group play. A teammate’s opener, support, or high-tier damage changes the result. Party clears show coordination; solo clears show account self-sufficiency.

Difficulty test sheet

For every attempt record:

  1. Difficulty or mode exactly as displayed.
  2. Map, Classic or other ruleset, and modifiers.
  3. Party size and each player’s role.
  4. Loadout, tiers, traits, and important placements.
  5. Key upgrade waves and remaining cash.
  6. Clear or final wave, reward shown, and badge result.

Change one variable on the next attempt. This turns difficulty progression into evidence instead of guesswork.

Current confidence

Casual, Normal, Hard, Endless, and the core systems are Official from the experience page. Casual, Normal, Hard, Insane, and Endless achievement names are Official from Roblox badge data. Current availability, unlocks, enemy scaling, wave counts, rewards, and modifier rules outside the exact badge wording need in-game testing.
